Program staff told the council they are adapting outreach and event logistics to protect participants who are worried about immigration enforcement and privacy. The Latino Health Initiative said it coordinates closely with the County Council PIO, limits address publication for events and uses community health workers to handle sensitive outreach.
"We individually call each person and a day or 2 before the event is when we 1st release the address because we don't want people to know where the Latino community is going to be congregating," Mariana Sarani said, describing steps LHI takes to protect participants. AHP said staff have seen a reduction in home visits and increased phone and SMS contacts as some participants decline in‑person visits.
AHI said it promotes materials from local legal‑aid and immigrant‑rights organizations (for example, Know Your Rights content) and asks grantees and steering committee organizations to share consistent messaging. Staff said they continue to refer residents to legal clinics and to coordinate with public information officers to get trusted messages out.
