The Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors accepted the resignation of Supervisor Julian Godbars effective July 21, 2026, during a special meeting called for candidate interviews and other business. Chair of the board moved to accept the resignation and the motion passed on a voice vote after a short discussion.
The board immediately filled one ancillary role tied to Godbarsdeparture. Chair asked that the community-fund liaison role — a position the resigning supervisor had held — be given to Supervisor Sonny Geis. The board seconded the motion and voted in favor. "All those in favor ... signify by saying aye," the Chair said; the motion passed by voice vote and Geis was tapped to begin liaison duties.
The meeting also established the timetable and legal requirements for filling the supervisory vacancy. Township attorney Andrew Schantz told applicants they must be residents of Upper Macungie Township for at least one year and registered voters, and he extended the deadline for submitting proof of residency and voter-registration evidence to "4 p.m. Thursday" at the township offices. Schantz noted the appointed person will serve until the first Monday in January following the 2027 municipal election and must file a statement of financial interest with the commonwealth by May 1, 2027.
