Police Chief David Pernice reported the department has been unable to reach a candidate who had been approved at the previous meeting and said he now assumes the person is no longer interested. He told councilors he plans to reach out to the regional hiring consortium — currently listing 32 candidates — and to coordinate oral exams with the Civil Service Commission.
"He said he has tried to make contact but has had no luck. He is assuming he is no longer interested," Police Chief David Pernice said, and indicated the department would continue recruiting. Pernice said his preference is to hire two part-time officers though the borough budget currently authorized only one position; Council agreed to continue the search for one part-time hire. The council did not record a formal vote on additional hiring beyond that agreement.
