Union City Borough council accepted on Oct. 7 the resignation of part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka, effective no later than Sept. 30, 2024. The resignation letter was dated Sept. 18, 2024; Councilor Joyce moved to accept the resignation and the minutes record the motion as carried.
Council also received a certified Civil Service list containing two candidates. Chief Pernice requested permission to complete background checks and to hire two part-time officers from the list. Council approved completing background checks for two part-time officer candidates (motion by Councilor Joyce, seconded by Councilor Steadman). Later in the meeting following an executive session on personnel and contracts, council approved a police contract for Zackery Shelly (motion by Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Kerns). The minutes do not provide a roll-call vote tally for these actions.
