Council schedules manager review work session, approves retroactive pay and appoints negotiation team

Council scheduled a special work session Feb. 17 to prepare the City Manager evaluation materials, agreed to combine review forms and anonymous staff input, approved retroactive pay for City Manager Underwood back to Jan. 11, and appointed Councilor Richard Wright and Attorney Andrew Cole as negotiation agents for the manager's contract.
The council agreed on Feb. 10 to prepare a more formal City Manager performance review process. Contract Attorney Andrew Cole presented a sample neutral review form and the council reached consensus to combine elements from two draft forms, have the manager complete a self-evaluation and collect anonymous staff evaluations that Attorney Cole will compile.
A special work session was scheduled for Feb. 17 at 6:45 p.m. to finalize evaluation documents. Mayor James Houdyshell announced City Manager Eric Underwood would receive retroactive pay back to Jan. 11 for a missed step in his contract; the council also appointed Councilor Richard Wright and Attorney Andrew Cole to act as negotiation agents for the City Manager contract in a motion that passed 6-0-0.
