Strasburg council approves emergency hires, swears in two officers and reviews village projects

The Strasburg Village Council met May 20, 2025, and approved several emergency hiring resolutions to add police and park personnel, then held a short round of department reports and community announcements. Mayor Bruce Metzger presided over the 6:00 p.m. session.
Council suspended the standard three-reading requirement and unanimously approved Resolution 2025-21 (hiring a new police officer), Resolution 2025-22 (ratifying a new part-time police officer), Resolution 2025-20 (ratifying another police hire), and Resolution 2025-23 (hiring a part-time park employee). Legal Counsel Terry Seeberger then swore in Officer Kyland Robinson and Officer Darren Avon.
Village Administrator Mike Rosenberry's report (read by Mayor Metzger) included operational items: June meter readings will be estimated unless residents call in readings by June 12; park concession power and sprinkler repairs are complete; pickleball courts are being installed; curbing was placed for the 7th Street to Dale project; and Newton Asphalt was approved for paving work. The council also heard public-safety reports from Fire Chief Jason Ely and Police Chief Randy Haugh and community announcements about a Memorial Day parade and an upcoming summer festival.
The meeting closed with unanimous approval to adjourn at 7:04 p.m.
