Drills completed across Nekoosa schools; board hears report of no major issues and notes camera upgrades

John Thomas and staff summarized the district's required unannounced emergency drills. At Humpke Elementary the SRO pre-taught ALICE procedures and the drill took about 20 minutes; the middle school ran an intruder simulation and staff reported following evacuation/lockdown protocols; the high school drill took about five to ten minutes. "There were no issues that came up," John Thomas said when summarizing the exercises.
Staff and the school resource officer (Officer Cole) described safety upgrades since last year, including flashing notification lights where building notification was previously difficult, camera installations and enhanced entrance controls. Board members asked about camera coverage and timing; staff said coverage varies by school (the middle school interior cameras were about 86% complete) and that interior/exterior checks will continue during summer site visits. A motion to approve the review of the emergency action drills was made and carried.
