Algonac City Council approved a special-event permit for the Walpole Island First Nation to hold a commemorative celebration marking the Saint Anne's Island Treaty’s 230th anniversary at Riverfront Park on Sunday, Aug. 30. The permit application, which covers use of the memorial gazebo area, was received and approved by city administration; the event’s safety and security plan was signed off by the Saint Clair County sheriff.
Council moved and seconded to approve the permit; the motion passed by voice vote. Bryson previously summarized plans that the ceremony begin at 1 p.m. and last about two hours, to include a commemorative service and traditional drumming.
