Residents press board on outreach and access to special-education planning materials

Several residents used the three-minute public-comment period to press district officials on outreach and access to information about the proposed special-education facility and related planning.
Crystal Whitaker said she no longer has parent-level access and asked how the district will publicize the planning email and outreach beyond district-family channels to reach the district’s roughly 70,000 residents. The district administrator replied that the materials are being delivered to district families, that the district will post open forms and surveys on the public website and that town halls for taxpayers will be scheduled between now and June.
Whitaker also asked whether plans to move 6th graders back to elementary schools would affect where 7th and 8th graders are housed; staff said those specifics are part of ongoing planning and clarified no decisions for 2026–27 are being made now. Staff said they are compiling submitted questions and will post Q&A and a fact sheet on the website.
