Karen Sharkson, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, told council staff and members the chamber's annual $10,000 request supports visitor outreach and event promotion. "We are doing a comprehensive marketing program for the bash this year to get more people to come into town," Sharkson said and noted PlacePlacer AI estimated about 3,500 people attended the July 3 celebration. She asked council to include the chamber's request in the budget review.
Sandy Hill, president of the Commerce Leadership Institute board, asked for $3,000 in FY27 hotel occupancy tax funds to advertise the BASH DASH 5K planned for Sept. 25 and said the organization hopes to double participation from roughly 80–90 entrants. Hill said the funds would be used for online race advertising and outreach to surrounding chambers and school athletic directors to increase runner turnout.
Council received both presentations; staff later noted these presentation items would be considered at the next meeting, and no immediate appropriation occurred that night.
