Toms River board holds annual ethics training, then approves board member code of ethics

After the presentation the board moved to adopt the board member code of ethics as presented.
The training outlined that board members must avoid conduct that would "create a justifiable impression among the public that such trust is being violated" and described advisory opinions and penalties the School Ethics Commission may issue. The board clerk called the roll for the ethics-code approval and members voted in favor during the roll call.
The board also received guidance that additional questions about the School Ethics Commission or the New Jersey School Boards Association could be referred to those entities for further clarification. The training concluded with Burns inviting follow-up questions and confirming that the boards materials satisfied statutory requirements.
