Student representatives from the district's three comprehensive high schools summarized recent school activities, athletics results, leadership programs and community service. Makayla Melanak (High School East) told the board the STEAM open house drew more than 300 community attendees and highlighted senior recognitions and service efforts.
District staff presented a long list of student awards — winners in veterans-day essays, MIT Future Makers coding, Data Nova research, internships at a local research center, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a winning east-coast space design team that advanced to and won at an international competition, plus Torch Leadership Academy recognitions. Board members and the superintendent congratulated students and staff during the awards portion of the meeting.
