Pool manager reports rising use and staffing improvements at J.F. Hodges municipal pool

Tracy McGowan addressed the commission to provide a seasonal update on the J.F. Hodges municipal swimming pool. McGowan said the facility — an outdoor pool dependent on weather — is serving more than 200 local children per day at peak times, has improved staffing levels though seasonal losses are expected as students return to school, and recently installed solar pumps linked to an automated chemical-control system. She asked the commission to consider a future permanent awning for large-group shade and described program possibilities such as keeping an outside lane available for physical-therapy clients and working with local PTs to expand therapeutic access.
McGowan invited commissioners and staff to tour the pump house to see maintenance and filtration systems and said staff are pursuing additional training and certification. Commissioners thanked her for the update and noted interest in coordinating physical‑therapy partners to expand aquatic therapy programming.
