Madam Chair Linda D. Hays opened the Newton County Board of Commissioners special called meeting July 7, 2026, at the Historic Courthouse. Commissioner Andre Cooper moved to adopt the agenda; Commissioner Stan Edwards seconded and the motion passed on a recorded vote of 4-0.
Following routine opening items — an invocation from Commissioner Stan Edwards and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Commissioner LeAnne Long — the board voted at 5:36 p.m. to enter an executive session to discuss litigation. The board returned to the meeting room at 6:42 p.m.; Madam Chair Hays then entertained a motion to reconvene the regular session and adjourn. Commissioner Stan Edwards moved the motion, Commissioner LeAnne Long seconded, and the board agreed to adjourn. The minutes were approved July 21, 2026, and bear the signatures of Interim Chair Linda D. Hays and County Clerk Susan G. Nolley.
