Commissioners discussed whether to seek an extension to June 30 for a grant associated with a planned search-and-rescue cabin or to accept an alternative site controlled by CDW to avoid returning unspent funds. One commissioner said the county had spent about $24,000 of a $38,000 grant and was exploring options to fulfill the grant without repaying funds or to acquire the cabin on county terms if the grant cannot be satisfied.
Staff and commissioners also discussed contractual and Forest Service implementation barriers to building the cabin on the originally intended site and said that if the county could not complete construction within the extension it might consider alternatives such as placing the cabin on CDW property or negotiating land-swap options with the Forest Service. No final decision to accept an alternate site or to purchase the cabin outright was made at the meeting.
