The Dolores County Board of County Commissioners confirmed four interim appointments to the Duck Creek Ambulance District board as the county races to restore local ambulance service. The director, speaking at a special meeting, named Jake Klein, Christina Gartcher, Branson Smith and Laverne Baster as appointees and said most were present for the announcement.
The director said the appointments were made quickly because of an urgent operational gap: “I saw the first resignation… then there was more to come,” and the departures left the district with scant staff. The director told commissioners a certification from legal counsel and the Department of Local Affairs supports the remaining director’s authority to fill vacancies, and said a 5:00 p.m. meeting at the Adventist Barn will swear in appointees, elect officers and begin administrative work. “My desire is to have as much transparency as possible and participation as possible,” the director said.
