Public Works Director Don Lewis reviewed past engineering work, said he had reservations about an immediate 4‑way stop because limited sight lines and the geometry of the curve may create more rear‑end collisions, and outlined alternatives including advanced warning signs, speed‑feedback panels, temporary speed humps and negotiating voluntary view easements with property owners to improve sight distance. After extended public comment and councilor discussion, the committee voted to place the petition on more time to permit staff study and to direct the city manager to introduce an ordinance for a 4‑way stop so Council may consider it; staff will also pursue short‑term mitigations and return with a package of options.
