Council hears updates on old City Hall redevelopment, Community Center septic and county grants

Councilors heard that work will begin on the City Park and septic work at the Community Center, Marion County approved a $160,000 grant to expand the Community Center drain field, and downtown redevelopment funding of $600,000–$800,000 may become available by late fall.
City Recorder Michelle Connor said the city will hold a Site Design Review meeting about redevelopment of the old City Hall site; she added that work in the City Park will begin in the next couple of months and that septic work at the Community Center will soon commence.
Councilor Denny Nielsen reported the county approved a $160,000 grant to expand the drain field at the Community Center and that the city is continuing work with a lobbyist on lake‑level issues. Nielsen also said Marion County is considering downtown redevelopment funding in the $600,000 to $800,000 range that could be available by late fall.
The council did not approve construction contracts at the Sept. 9 meeting. Staff will coordinate design review, the septic/ drain‑field work funded by the county grant and return with procurement and scheduling details.
