Council approves plan for larger public food pantry boxes and reuse of older units

The Donald City Council reviewed a proposed food pantry upgrade on April 14 and approved a plan to build two larger food pantry boxes to be sited at City Hall. City Manager Eric Underwood reviewed the submission from Cassie Hammond and councilors agreed the new boxes should have transparent doors and that staff would bring a completed box to a future meeting for review before mounting.
The council also agreed to repurpose two of the existing older boxes at the Gazebo as little free libraries and to place the remaining old box at the property of Councilor Richard Wright for use as a little free library. A suggestion was made to add a locked slot so citizens could request a food box; the council did not adopt further requirements at the meeting.
The action is a policy direction for staff rather than a formal permit or budget appropriation; the council asked staff to return with a completed unit for final placement and mounting.
