Police chief warns of recruitment setbacks; equipment purchases delayed by credit limits

"We have 3 excellent candidates about 30 to 45 days ago that... withdrew basically the same day after they have learned the same type of information that you have learned in the public," the Police Chief reported. Councilors said the publicity complicates recruitment and agreed to work with the chief to address community concerns.
The chief also explained that procurement of grant-funded informational signs and six speed-detection devices has been delayed because the town's credit-card purchasing capacity was temporarily constrained. Staff said the credit limit and the timing of bill approval prevented purchases for several weeks; the chief said once the current bill clears, sign purchases (about $3,000) should proceed and devices will be deployed by mid to late August.
