The Colchester School District Board of Education on Feb. 17 approved the first reading of a consolidated curriculum, instruction and assessment policy package that combines current policies G1 (Instruction), G1a (Homework), G1b (Pilot Projects) and G6 (Comprehensive Student Assessment). Director of Curriculum and Instruction Gwen Carmolli presented the draft and said the change responds to updated guidance from the Vermont School Boards Association (VSBA) recommending that instruction and assessment shift from district policy into district procedure.
Director Ben Yousey‑Hindes moved to approve the first reading of the four policy items; the motion passed unanimously. Board members reviewed the draft section by section and provided feedback for staff to incorporate before a future second reading. The action records the board taking a first-reading vote rather than adopting final policy language.
