Council amends tree-permit rule; contractors to apply for permits instead of homeowners

The Village of Michiana council voted to amend the Tree Ordinance so that tree contractors — rather than homeowners — will be responsible for applying for tree permits.
Nancy Thill moved approval of the change and Brian Cassidy seconded; the motion passed. Thill explained the change is intended to streamline permitting and shift administrative responsibility to contractors performing the work.
Thill also reported that Steve Lane, who worked on the village tree survey map, was leaving and that Lesley will serve as the Urban Arborist and will revisit maps. Arbor Day was set for Thursday, July 10 at 10:00 a.m. EST in the park by the sugar maple, and the Tree Board will meet June 20 at 11:00 a.m. EST.
