Council clarifies paid parking at Village Hall, residents given priority and event exceptions

Council President Tim McCarthy explained the village's revised paid-parking approach for spaces in front of Village Hall as part of old-business discussion on parking policy.
"If you are a resident, you must place your hanging tag on your review mirror. Golf carts should place the sticker on the back fender of cart," McCarthy said, describing how longstanding resident tags will be used to prioritize on-street spaces. He told residents the tags had been available in the village for 12 years and were previously used for designated parking at Stop 41 for $10 a year.
McCarthy said the change is intended to keep spaces available for taxpayers doing village business or visiting the park with small children. Visitors who want to park directly in front of Village Hall will be asked to pay $10 an hour, he said, or use the free parking area by Michiana Drive or along Cherokee Drive. McCarthy added that parking will be free during Village-hosted events such as Music in the Park.
Some residents asked about the policy during public comment. Dr. Lome had earlier asked why the new paid parking area was created; council members answered that the intent was to balance resident access with visitor demand and event exceptions.
