Police Chief Ryan Layman told the Village of Michiana Council that "11 or 12 trees had been cut down on the Village Property" near Stop 40 and that he had issued an alert asking residents to come forward with any information about the incident.
Layman and council members asked that the Village notify the Arborist for an appraisal, contact EGLE because the trees are located in the Critical Dune, and notify Chikaming Open Lands because the property is held in a land trust. The council did not take a formal vote on enforcement action during the meeting but directed staff to notify the listed agencies and encouraged residents to report tips to the police department.
