The City of Seaside Community Safety Advisory Commission voted to set a spending cap of no more than $500 for giveaways at National Night Out, scheduled for Aug. 4, 2026.
"We set it, at 500. No more than 500," Chair Jones said during the motion, which was seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners discussed staffing the commission table in two primary shifts (3:30–5:30 p.m. and 5:30–7:30 p.m.), volunteer sign-ups and age-appropriate raffle prizes.
Staff told commissioners that some giveaway items (for example, custom pencils) can arrive on a one-week turnaround if ordered quickly; staff offered reimbursement or to place orders if commissioners supply the cart or link to purchase. The commission assigned Commissioners Katz and Velasquez to coordinate purchases and logistics with the staff liaison.
Commissioners also agreed to distribute informational flyers and include the commission’s Facebook contact information on materials so residents can follow up after the event. The item passed by voice vote; no opposing votes were recorded.
