Council: park lawn finished, trees planted and irrigation work underway

Council members reported progress on the village park on Oct. 11, including a newly installed lawn and an irrigation system being coordinated with contractor Down to Earth. During the meeting resident Kathleen Hogan Morrison asked whether the new lawn would increase upkeep costs; the council said no additional cost and confirmed routine mowing, leaf clean-up and tree watering would continue.
The Tree Board reported MDNR-funded plantings of five trees on Sept. 25: a Black Gum, two Ironwood, one Dogwood and one Sugar Maple, with metal fencing placed to protect the new trees from deer. Council member Mike Mumper said staff are coordinating irrigation and that the new pump is ready and staff plan to install it in November when usage is lower. Nancy Thill described plans for a butterfly garden and proposed a pergola at the park entrance if funding becomes available.
