The Village of Michiana council voted Oct. 11 to approve a police contract with Grand Beach that will take effect Jan. 1, 2025. The motion to approve the contract was made by Tim McCarthy, seconded by Mike Botelho, and passed by roll call with five ayes and zero nays.
Tim McCarthy read part of the department report and noted that Police Chief Ryan Layman will send an alert in the next three weeks inviting residents to sign up for winter house checks for homeowners who will be away. The council recorded 38 combined calls with Grand Beach in the recent reporting period. The contract approval was recorded during old business and is scheduled to begin at the start of the new year.
