The Village of Michiana council voted to approve a water contract with Michigan City during its Aug. 9 meeting, a motion moved by Brian Cassidy and seconded by Mike Mumper that passed on a 3-0 roll call. Village Attorney Sara Senica also updated the council on unrelated litigation.
Council members discussed the village's broader water program while approving the contract. Councilmember Mike Mumper said Merritt Engineering is finishing plans for a water project on Creek that is funded as part of a $620,000 grant; he said the water-main work is expected to take "2 or 3 weeks" and that asphalt restoration could be completed by mid-November. Mumper also said a new pump will be installed after Labor Day.
