DayDreamer organizers outline expansion plans after successful 2026 event

Event organizer Heidi Renzall told the council the DayDreamer trail running event held Feb. 6–7, 2026 drew roughly 220 visitors, including about 140 runners and 80 additional attendees, and that the event hosted a free kids run for 25 children under age 10.
Renzall said organizers plan to lower the price point to broaden participation, run an expanded local advertising campaign in Santa Cruz County and relocate the entire event to Patagonia Town Park for Feb. 2027 with a goal of 400 runners. "Patagonia is an incredible place to host a trail running event," Renzall said. She added organizers will continue a minimal‑waste theme while shifting fundraising toward the Patagonia Youth Enrichment Center cycling program.
Renzall thanked council and safety partners (Patagonia Fire, Santa Cruz County and the sheriff's department) for logistical support and noted the DayDreamer safety plan was ready in case of emergency. Dates for the third annual DayDreamer were announced as the first weekend in February 2027.
