Council seeks lake‑management estimates, disputes PlantWell charge at The Preserve

Mayor Russ Nidy told the council he met with Gary Wilhelm of Solitude Lake Management about vegetation growth in town lakes and was advised that cattails and spatterdock (lily‑pad like growth) should be removed. Wilhelm will provide estimates for initial treatment of each lake and for ongoing maintenance; Mayor Nidy called out heavy vegetation in the horseshoe area around the island in Gem Lake (the Glen Ridge portion).
Separately, the town is disputing a $2,100 charge from PlantWell for trimming two Sylvester palms, removing five dead palms, and other vegetation work at The Preserve; Vice Mayor Marion Chateau‑Flagg and Mayor Nidy said the fee was not discussed when PlantWell representative Ryan met with the vice mayor. Mayor Nidy and the clerk will request a meeting with Jared, owner of PlantWell, to resolve the billing and address mowing and access issues. Council Member Kathleen Hoock also proposed exploring designation as a historic district; the council discussed involving UF Extension Master Gardeners to help develop a Preserve master plan.
