Council directs staff to set a work session on mobile food vendors and parking enforcement

Planning staff Carla explained that under current planning code mobile food vendors are a conditional use that requires going through the land-use public hearing process and must operate on private property; the draft ordinance aims to provide more flexibility while still requiring conditions to protect existing businesses.
Councilors raised concerns about competition with downtown restaurants and the need to identify appropriate locations and enforcement. They agreed a combined work session that includes paid parking and enforcement provisions would give staff time to form recommendations and allow public input. "So currently in our planning code, it's a conditional use, which means it goes through the land use public hearing process," Carla said. Staff was directed to develop options and schedule a work session.
