Commissioners favored a small pilot of functional sculptures—art that serves practical uses such as bike racks, seating or gateway pieces—and discussed applying a rotating on-loan model to pay artists a stipend. Several members noted that such pieces could be installed at bus stops or medians if legal and safety checks (breakaway mounting, liability waivers) are satisfied.
The group also discussed repurposing green bikes offered by EDDA for placement within the corridor to enhance wayfinding and activation; staff were asked to confirm counts and ownership. As one commissioner summarized the implementation concern, staff will “verify the art pads with Public Works and the city attorney’s office,” (attributed to S1) before advancing locations or procurement.
