Board opts to use ranked-preference ballots to pick budget committee members and calls a short recess

Chair called five budget committee applicants to the board’s attention and proposed a ranked-preference (Borda count) method where board members privately mark preferences and the clerk (Bonnie) tallies the points. The Chair explained the ballots would be confidential and that the method produces a blind consensus rather than an open nomination-by-seat approach.
Board members discussed the lack of formal application materials and the fairness of offering applicants a chance to submit a more detailed statement; the Superintendent had emailed applicants asking for a revised letter of intent by April 6. After discussion the board agreed to move forward with the ranked ballot process and Chair called a five-minute recess while the clerk prepared the tallies.
