Local landowners urge changes to proposed dock and frontage rules in Dunes City code rewrite

At the Feb. 26 hearing, several property owners raised technical concerns about proposed frontage standards and new dock limits in the draft Chapter 155. Jonathan A. Anderson, a landowner planning to build, asked how frontage is measured on cul-de-sacs and private roads and warned a 144-square-foot dock cap would block repairs or replacement of older, larger docks.
Anderson said the new dock rule is narrower than current practice and that interagency negotiation can allow larger docks under other regulators. "I think it would be a lot easier for Dune City to adjust the total square footage rules to 400 square feet and allow the other two agencies...to do all the extra complexities of negotiations," he said, arguing a higher threshold would reduce the burden on property owners and on the city. Commissioners noted a variance process could apply but did not commit to a specific numeric change before the March 6 continuation.
