At the July 7 meeting, a long-serving member of the Dufur School District board announced an immediate resignation, saying repeated breaches of governance and communications policies had been ignored and had harmed the district.
In a prepared statement the board member — who said she had served more than 15 years — criticized "intrusive and unproductive behavior" by some board members and said the board president had at times changed policy interpretations to suit his position. "Board members have overstepped their roles repeatedly, undermining the administration's authority," the speaker said, and added she no longer felt she could serve effectively.
The chair responded that he would welcome outside review and investigation if the community requested it, and the board moved to recognize the resignation and open the vacancy. The meeting record includes no formal board determination about the allegations; the chair characterized the situation as a matter of differing perceptions and said he is open to scrutiny of emails and processes.
