Dawson County opens public hearing on proposed cuts to business license fees

Community Development Director Richard Osborne presented an amended fee schedule during the Dawson County Board of Commissioners work session on May 21, 2026, saying the proposal would lower business license fees countywide. "In 2025, the board approved changes; the range was, as is currently, from $150 to a max of $2,050. As proposed ... the business license fees would range from a low of $125 to a high of $975," Osborne said, and added the board could choose a $50 starting fee if it wished.
Chairman Billy Thurmond opened the public hearing and, hearing no members of the public wishing to speak, closed the hearing. The board scheduled a second public hearing on the amended Community Development Fee Schedule for the June 4, 2026 Voting Session, when commissioners will have the opportunity to act on the proposed changes.
