Council discusses vacation of a segment of Cottonwood Drive after railroad crossing closure

The final planning director explained the request to vacate the portion of Cottonwood Drive between Highway 1416 and Money Road after the railroad crossing there is closed; the same property owner holds land on both sides so vacating that segment would consolidate ownership but the utility easement would remain. "This vacation is being proposed of Cottonwood Drive... as that railroad crossing for Cottonwood Drive is being closed," the planning director said.
Councilmembers asked practical questions about whether the road would be physically removed or gated and whether building could occur over the former roadway given utilities in the easement. A councilmember asked if a building could be placed over the road; staff responded that the developer would need railroad approval for any crossing, and that utilities would remain. No members of the public testified on the item and the hearing closed.
