River Ridge CDD discusses storm-surge risks; staff to join regional resilience planning

Eric Long briefed the Board on storm-surge protection and resilience planning, describing an action plan being developed to build resilience over the next five to ten years. He proposed creating an advisory/review panel and asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and a staff or engineering representative to help coordinate with broader regional partners.
Long presented a hypothetical topographic analysis for a 'Hurricane Milton' scenario and stated that "a 10' to 12' storm surge could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded." He said addressing the issue could take a decade and would likely require coordination with state, county and village agencies, and possibly the Army Corps of Engineers if funding becomes available. The Board reached consensus that Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill would assist and authorized Mr. Krebs to help as needed.
