Council moves to publish public hearings on farm breweries, farm distilleries and RR minimum lot-size changes

Dorchester County will publish public hearings after the Council unanimously agreed to introduce amendments to Chapter 155 to permit farm breweries and distilleries, and to revise Rural Residential minimum lot sizes tied to availability of public water and sewer.
The County Council on July 7 agreed to introduce two zoning amendments and to publish public hearings. Planning & Zoning Director Susan Webb recommended amendments to Chapter 155 (Zoning) and the supplementary use regulations to allow farm breweries and farm distilleries. She also recommended revising the Rural Residential (RR) district to update the district intent and to adjust minimum lot sizes based on whether properties have access to public community water and sewer services.
Councilman Mike Detmer moved and Councilman Rob Kramer seconded the introductions; the Council voted unanimously to proceed with publication of public hearings. The minutes record the Councils agreement to publish hearings but do not include the draft ordinance text or proposed effective dates. The Planning & Zoning Department will present formal hearing materials at the public hearing.
