Board approves content-filtering rollout and clarifies device rules for students

The board discussed and approved a plan to deploy Aristotle, a device-filtering and parental-control platform, on all school-issued devices and to provide parents with options to manage filters for home use.
The superintendent said district devices are managed by IT and preloaded with necessary software; devices issued for in-school work connect to district infrastructure and are required for classroom use. "The school device'the technology device is for use in schools. It doesn't preclude you from using your own Apple or something [at home]," an administrator said, while explaining that the district will not pre-load personal devices used only at home.
On Aristotle, the superintendent said it "will filter, a second layer of filtering for all our devices" and that parents "will be able to turn it on and stop them and see what their kids are doing or block them" when devices are used off campus. Board members asked who monitors the filter reports; administration said IT will run reports and follow existing safety protocols when flagged content appears.
Members also asked about YouTube access; the district said educational YouTube content will be allowed but unrestricted browsing will be blocked. The rollout includes an initial setup cost plus an ongoing subscription and will be phased in as part of a multi-year technology plan.
