TDOT lighting delays push sidewalk and light projects past school start, city economic development says

Patty Carroll, economic development director, updated the board on local projects and said the TDOT lighting project for the Cumberland Road intersection is delayed due to design review and equipment/parts problems. Carroll said TDOT now anticipates the lighting work could be delayed until November but indicated the department was exploring installing a temporary light to help during the school opening period.
Carroll also reported development updates: the TriStar groundbreaking occurred recently and Ascension is planning a September groundbreaking and will enter the planning process. She reiterated that the city continues to attract inquiries from businesses and noted that building-permit revenue and some tax revenues were down for the quarter but overall look acceptable year-to-date.
Commissioners repeatedly reminded residents that TDOT (the state) — not the City of Fairview — has jurisdiction over state routes including Roads 96 and 100. Carroll said sidewalk work is likely to occur toward the end of September, acknowledging this may not meet the city's hoped-for schedule ahead of the school year.
