Rec center construction back on schedule; recent change orders small net increase

City staff presented a construction update on the indoor recreation and aquatic center and summarized recent change orders. Project manager Bob Beanstrom told the council the building’s exterior shell is nearly complete, work in the competition pool area is in mechanical and electrical phases, work on the recreation pool is just beginning, and the center core area should see sheetrock within 30–60 days. The schedule had slipped earlier but the contractor, Stahl, refocused and regained time; Beanstrom said they now anticipate turnover in the third week of July next year.
Beanstrom reported two change orders during the past month — one increasing the contract by roughly $18,000–$19,000 and another reducing it by about $12,000 — producing a “net change over the past month was between 6 and $7,000.” He noted the council previously increased the project management committee’s change-order authority and staff said approximately $84,000 of that increased authority remained.
