During the mayor's report and development update, Michael (S8) summarized building permits issued from January through July 2026: approval of a 25-unit subdivision with ground-breaking expected and units due over the next three years; two single-family permits in which Liberty Village is investing about $650,000; and one new commercial two-unit building for Jersey Mike's and Pancheros. Michael said total permitted commercial investment so far is about $2,725,000.
Council members discussed the shortage of R-3 zoned land that limits immediate multifamily construction opportunities. Michael said, "So we'll see 25 new housing units there within the next 3 years," and the council agreed the city has demand for multifamily product but lacks available R-3 parcels.
