Public Works representative Jennifer Mayo said one of the department's trucks is nearing the end of its service life and reported a local 2021 Ram 2500 Tradesman priced at $26,499 plus fees with 93,000 miles; her mechanic recommended the vehicle and said he expected long service life with proper maintenance. Mayo said the purchase would replace unit 01 (a 2003 Chevy 2500) and that the existing liftgate would be transferred to the new truck.
Council discussed extended warranties, whether this purchase would replace or supplement other fleet vehicles, and a potential lease plan for older vehicles. Mayor Kinney proposed approving up to $35,000 in case the listed truck is unavailable; Joel Nalley moved to approve $35,000 to be taken or split between the utility fund and the street fund. Lyndsie Whigham seconded and the council voted unanimously to approve the authorization.
Staff said the new truck is intended for water, chlorine handling and street projects; the fiscal split and final purchase will be handled through Public Works and finance.
