Carlin council approves tentative FY2026–27 budget package; two projects added for follow-up

The Carlin City Council held a special workshop March 27 to review the tentative fiscal year 2026–27 budget and voted unanimously to include two specific projects—the sewer alley repairs between 10th and 14th Streets and the Carlin Trend cattle guard replacement—in the tentative budget to move them forward for design and funding consideration. Denise Taylor moved to approve the tentative budget with those two projects included; Brandon Keller seconded, and Mayor Cameron Kinney called for a unanimous vote that passed.
Bernardo Sandoval, the city’s budget analyst for the meeting, told the council that final state revenue numbers received March 25 leave the city “in a fairly good position budget-wise” but he recommended lowering the consolidated tax estimate by $100,000 to be conservative. Sandoval noted the city has an approximately $4 million beginning fund balance but cautioned that several capital projects planned or already under way will consume cash and may require carryover into FY2027.
