Senate sets committee meetings, recess and recognizes visiting groups

Senate leadership announced committee schedules and public events for the day and week. Appropriations full committee was set to meet at 11:15 a.m. in Room 216; Finance at 1:30 p.m.; and Highways and Transportation after recess in Room 216. Members were reminded the Senate would not convene on Friday to allow time for bill review.
Several senators introduced visitors from their districts and requested the chamber welcome them, including students from Jackson Prep's AP government class, members of the Madison County Youth Leadership Program, representatives of the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association and guests associated with Holmes Community College and the Mississippi Faculty Staff Association. The clerk also read a resolution congratulating 17-year-old Rachel McAlpin of Brandon for winning a gold medal at a swimming championship in Romania.
At the close of the morning session, Senator Blackwell moved that the Senate stand in recess until 5 p.m. and adjourn until 10 a.m. the following morning; the motion passed by voice vote and the Senate recessed.
