Following a reconvened executive session, Beaufort County Council moved to suspend Commissioner Rick Krog from his position on the Bluffton Township Fire District Board of Commissioners.
Councilman Bartholomew moved the suspension, which was seconded by Vice Chair Tabarnick. The motion directed immediate suspension effective until the pending investigation is completed or until a permanent fire chief is hired—whichever occurs last. Council voted by show of hands and the motion passed unanimously, including online votes, per the caucus record.
The suspension followed public comment earlier in the meeting from multiple Bluffton Township Fire District members and supporters who described the chief’s lengthy service and urged proportionate treatment while the investigation proceeds. Fire district speakers recounted examples of the chief’s community support and asked council to ensure any discipline reflects the severity of any infractions.
Council did not discuss investigative details in public; the suspension was announced as a business action coming out of executive session.
