The board previewed a substantive academic committee report that will include discussion of the academic calendar and implications for staffing. "Student achievement, we're gonna talk the academic calendar," the chair said; staff added they are "pushing way out there to stay ahead of it" when planning two years forward.
Staff explained changes to promotion criteria for third grade: portfolios previously used for promotion decisions are no longer in use, so promotion will rely on state or summer tests. As a result, staff said the district is planning to assign more third-grade teachers and reduce fourth-grade openings for the coming cycle. The discussion focused on scheduling and staffing logistics rather than a final policy decision.
