Council received a presentation and public hearing on Ordinance 2025/24 and related resolutions to fund the county’s contribution toward the purchase of the North Widgeon tract, which would add land contiguous to the Widgeon Point Preserve.
Kate Schafer, representing the Open Land Trust (a consultant to the rural and critical program), described the parcel and noted grant funding from the State Conservation Bank and green‑space program to support the purchase. Council members said the acquisition would be an appropriate conclusion for this iteration of the Rural and Critical Lands program and emphasized public benefit and access.
Council moved the ordinance and associated resolution forward on the agenda with unanimous support in caucus. Staff and partners said the item will return for additional readings and formal closing steps once funding and documents are finalized.
