The council said it engaged an outside professional group to interview candidates and that the group's recommendation was Sergeant Katie Weaver for chief; because of contractual issues she has been appointed officer‑in‑charge for now. "The 2 day testing and interview process culminated in a recommendation of Sergeant Katie Weaver to the position of Chief of Department," a council member said.
Council members thanked Chief Tracy and Captain Watts for long service and said the department will complete promotions and contract steps before a formal swearing-in. The council said it will continue to use a police committee to review promotions and will report recommendations to the full council.
